PDO Smooth Threads

PDO smooth threads are a game changer when it comes to injectable treatments that wind back the clock with a gradual yet long–lasting result – but how do they compare to anti-wrinkle injections? A treatment that involves placing smooth, absorbable threads underneath your skin, PDO smooth threads stimulate and accelerate the production of your own collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. This delivers long-term benefits to your skin including strengthening, tightening, and plumping, while reducing fine lines and wrinkles. As results appear gradually over the first few months, no-one will know you’ve had any work done, and you’ll look refreshed and feel great for your age.

How do the Thread work?

PDO smooth threads involve the placement of smooth, absorbable threads underneath your skin. The threads contain polydioxanone (PDO) which is a biodegradable polymer that is slowly absorbed by your body over time. They are different to mechanical or barbed threads, which gather skin to produce a lifting action. Rather, by stimulating and accelerating your own collagen supplies, the threads provide more facial contouring and improve the quality of your skin to deliver a plumper and more youthful complexion. They can be performed as a full-face treatment or can be targeted to specific areas of the face such as brow, jawline, or tear troughs, and the neck.

Who is the ideal candidate for this treatment?

PDO smooth threads are ideal for anyone looking to improve the quality, tone, and texture of their skin. Treating your skin with the threads while the signs of skin laxity are still mild will thicken, hydrate, and strengthen your skin, delivering a smoother, firmer appearance for longer. For this reason, it’s an excellent treatment to combine with others to support your approach to age management.

What are the results that I can expect from this treatment?

PDO smooth threads work to strengthen sagging skin, improve visible scarring, and provide a natural brightness and glow that lasts for up to 12 months, leaving you looking refreshed and rejuvenated.

When will I see results?

Results may be visible instantly but generally develop over time as the threads stimulate collagen production. A series of treatments is recommended to improve overall skin quality and annual treatments are recommended to maintain your results.

Are the threads permanent?

No, they’re not permanent. The threads will naturally dissolve over three to four months, and during this time, they will stimulate fresh, strong collagen. This will deliver benefits long after they are broken down by your body, with results typically lasting up to 12 months. For longer-lasting results, we recommend a series of three treatments every 12 weeks.
Is there any downtime?

Yes, there is a bit of downtime involved, typically around one to two days. During this time, you may experience some swelling, redness, itching, tenderness, and discoloration at the treatment area which usually resolves after a few days.

How are PDO Smooth Threads different from Botox or Xeomin Injections?

Botox are still the gold-standard treatment for quickly reducing wrinkles and fine lines, as they work to relax the muscles responsible for causing them. However, you can really maximize your results by combining anti-wrinkle with PDO smooth threads. This is because, the PDO threads will stimulate your own collagen, improving the overall health of your skin for a more youthful complexion.

How do PDO smooth threads different from dermal filler injections?

Dermal filler injections work to restore volume loss and enhance your features by injecting hyaluronic acid underneath your skin. The hyaluronic acid replaces lost volume and enhances key areas of your face such as the lips and cheeks, as well as works to attract and bind water, which improves elasticity and smooths your skin.  Again, this is a great complimentary treatment to PDO smooth threads, which improve your skin’s texture, tone, and overall health.
